As the Vietnam War nears its end, the city of Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City) is in chaos, preparing for the departure of the last American troops. In the midst of this turmoil, Dreamland, a bar frequented by American soldiers and locals, becomes the setting for a dramatic love story.
- Chris: An American G.I. stationed in Vietnam, who is facing the end of his tour of duty.
- Kim: A young Vietnamese woman working at Dreamland. She is a hopeful and dream-filled young woman seeking a better life.
Chris and Kim meet in the Dreamland bar and fall in love quickly, finding solace and escape from the chaos of war in each other’s arms. They plan to start a new life together in America.
However, their love faces numerous challenges. Chris must return to America, leaving Kim behind in Saigon. As the city undergoes dramatic changes, Kim struggles to survive and provide for her child, who is a result of her relationship with Chris.
The musical explores the pain, hope, and sacrifice involved, with powerful songs such as “The Last Night of the World,” “I Still Believe,” and “The Movie in My Mind.” Miss Saigon highlights the impact of war on individuals and the enduring strength of love amidst hardship.
