Chicago follows the story of Roxie Hart, a beautiful woman who ends the life of her lover after he threatens to leave her. While waiting for her trial in a women’s prison, she meets Velma Kelly, another female murderer who is incarcerated for killing her husband and sister, who were having an affair. With the cunning and high-priced lawyer Billy Flynn, who knows how to manipulate the media, and the "compassion" of Mary Sunshine, a prominent journalist who presents herself as a "savior" for the downtrodden, the case of these two women becomes a sensation in Chicago.

Behind the scenes, however, both women are deceitful and cutthroat, fighting each other in every way possible to become the top newspaper sensation and to avoid the death penalty.
